Feeling better, but still away
I am sorry about last week, but am finally feeling better. Wish I could get rid of this cough though! I am away at the dentist today and back tomorrow. I will make a longer post tonight! Enjoy the day.

Pumpkin Patch Pictures
Parent/Teacher Interviews, Litterless Lunch and more!!
Looks like monsoons are here! A very quick reminder about sending a dry set of clothes with your child, just in case. We have very big mud puddles on the playground.
I am looking forward to meeting with you during Parent/Teacher Conferences. I am sorry about the short notice for appointment time. If your time doesn’t work for you please call me at the school (250 949 6687) and we can reschedule. This meeting is a time for you to get a picture of how your child is adjusting to Grade 1. This is a time for sharing information and developing ways to support your child at school.
We will also be trying something new. WEDNESDAYS will be litterless lunch day in our classroom. We will try to have one day a week were students have no packaging or garbage in our lunches. Did you know;
- The average school-aged child with a disposable lunch generates 30 kilograms of waste a year.
- One of the easiest ways to reduce garbage in schools is through lunch time.
- To pack a litterless lunch, pack food in reusable containers, pack reusable instead of disposable cutlery, use a refillable drink bottle (instead of drink boxes), and use a cloth napkin instead of paper.
- Also consider buying in bulk instead of buying single-serving foods

OK, I have the best of intentions come Sunday and this update is ALWAYS late....... someday!
Notes for this week? PERMISSION FORMS for pumpkin patch on Thursday! Please get them in ASAP. Please wear boots because it will be muddy. I will take lots of pictures on the trip so those of you that are not able to attend can check it out.
Library is on WEDNESDAY because we are going on our field trip on Thursday - late notice, sorry.
Grade 2 parents, we are now doing spelling tests. I am trying something different this year and using the Words Their Way program. In this program students focus on spelling patterns. I will try to have Spelling City updated with new words so students can practice online at home (please find link on "Sites for Students"). Also I will also send the words home a letter with a list of words from the word families that COULD be on the test. Of all the words on the test we will only be only testing 10 as an indication of how well the students are recognizing the pattern. If you have any questions please let give me a call at the school 250-949-6418
Roots of Empathy begins this week!!!
We continue to be busy and we will start a few exciting things this week! Sharing will begin NEXT week, just didn’t quite get it organized for this week. Grade 2’s will be beginning their spelling program, they will be working in the Resource Room 4X a week, Grade 1’s will be starting their spelling program after Christmas. On Thursdays our class will be participating in a program called Roots of Empathy. ROE is an amazing opportunity for children to watch the development of a baby that visits our classroom monthly. In this program a parent and baby come into our class and work towards the following goals;
- To foster the development of empathy
- To develop emotional literacy
- To reduce levels of bullying, aggression and violence and promote children’s pro social behaviours
- To increase knowledge of human development, learning and infant safety
- To prepare students for responsible citizenship and responsive parenting.
When you are in the school check out our Roots of Empathy board.
If you have any questions about the program please call me at school (250 949 6418)
